Law and Order Doomsday episode
Re-run from 2009 tickled me with it's quirky twist on RaptureLetters.com and similar post-rapture sites and services.
This is too funny not to post. Anyone see it? Plot-Buster alert!
Plot Layout: Three rapture believers set up a web company that will send out your final emails to your beloveds in the event you get taken up. You leave your final thoughts, maybe some bible references explaining what has happened and what those left behind should do next, etc. If 2 out of the 3 owners of the company don't log in on any given day, the program assumes the rapture has happened, activates the staged e-mail sending program, delivering your mails to the list you've left.
So -- One of the 3 guys goes on vacation, expecting the other 2 to log in as usual and keep the send program from activating. BUT!! Being TV, one of the guys has been murdered, misses the log-in. OOOH - NOOOS. "you've got mail!"
Funny thing is one of their customers has left mail detailing his misdeeds and how Jesus has forgiven him (since he is gone now, and is with the lord, natch!) His nefew gets his "final email", which begins "If you're reading this, then I'm already gone.." and goes on to confess one of his forgiven sins was the murder of Aunt Bee. (I actually forget her name, it was some aunt though)
He assumes it is a suicide note, and runs to the police to try to abort the attempt. Police track the guys address and go to his apt, and find the body of murdered aunt bee in the freezer. Now they have a body, and a confession letter. THEN the guy comes home. Falls apart because .. if the mail went out, OH MY GOD, I've been left behind! Facing the cops of Law and Order is the least of his problems, it would seem that Jesus didnt forgive him after all. Much bummed. It only gets worse from there.
Great show, loved the concept, just a wee-bit hokey due to dialogue of cast re: faith and the rapture, etc. Still, just had to pass it on.
=============
Need to mention there are several websites that offer similar services. There are tons of companies willing to take your cash, but RaptureLetters.com is one of the free ones.
