The Right Rallies, Mostly
Republican Sour Grapes? Not so much, surprisingly. Even when they didn't vote for the Democratic candidate, some Republicans admit to hoping for a successful 4 years.
Sometimes Dennis Miller cracks me up. Sometimes he just plain irks me. But I do want to bring forward one of his better moments. Better, meaning yours truly agrees with him, naturally. He was guesting on the November 12 (08) edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor. (yes, another tv commentarian gone mad on his own fame)I hope that Barack Obama does so well that four years hence, I am salivating to vote for him. I want this all to work, because I love my country ... And I hope he does great.
Miller was near-spent droning on about Sarah Palin's appearant lack of sexual neurosis. huh? This was to be the topic bandied about the blogs and airways for days after the show, but what I found to be his shining moment wasn't even a blip on the dials.
Since you've probably seen and heard all he had to say about the Alaskan Govs Caribou-Barbie hotness.. can we get to the good stuff? Mind you, this show was in November. After the election, but before the inaugural.
O'REILLY: Now, you've been reassessing in the last -- in the last eight days the presidential vote. And what conclusions, Miller, have you come to?
MILLER: "Well, two. I'm kind of happy now that it's over. Because when they showed Grant Park that night and I saw the looks on the face of some of the black elders looking up, who had been pushed aside to lunch counters and bathrooms, and I saw that catharsis, I thought, well, I intellectualized this would be good for the country in that way. I had no idea the depth of feeling. It pleases my heart. I'm happy for them.
And you know something? He's my president now. And I am not going to do what the left did to Bush. I find it unbecoming. I hope that Barack Obama does so well that four years hence, I am salivating to vote for him. I want this all to work, because I love my country ... And I hope he does great.
Also, the guy looks so smart to me. I didn't believe anything he said when he was running. But now I know he's so smart ... So I like the fact that he's really smart.
But I will not turn my back on George Bush. Today, 2,619 days since a domestic terror attack on this soil. Thank you to my commander in chief, and thank you to the troops for providing us the safety to have an election like that."
I can't speak for all pink-folks, but I think a lot of us feel this way, even traditionally republican voters. This isn't the President of one race, but of one nation. Doesn't it feel nice to know that our President can get up on the world stage and probably not fall off the podium or otherwise look like an idiot?
And what other nation has a Commander-In-Chief that will "send a shout-out" to the troops before the Superbowl? Heyyy.
So.. comments.. I'll ask you GrownUps what O'Reilly asked Miller...
It's been a while now, what conclusions have you come to about our new President?
Also, do you think the GOP supporters have supported the goals of the new administration?
